Hello everyone, I hope this message finds you all well.I’ll try to be brief, but unfortunately, the story requires some details.
At the beginning of 2023, my father fell into a coma due to a severe infection that spread throughout his body, with the bacteria settling in his bones. He remained in this condition for almost two months. Fortunately, he came out of the coma, but he was left with several complications.During this time, he lost half of his left foot and his right leg up to the hip.
My maternal grandparents, out of the love they had for my father (he and my mother had been divorced for many years), invited him to stay in their guesthouse and cared for him for several months.
Unfortunately, my father spent most of 2024 going in and out of the hospital. During his last consultation with his doctor at the end of September, he was informed that he would also need to amputate his left leg.
For a man full of pride, this was the end of the world. My father decided to take his own life, as he felt he couldn’t live that way anymore.
My father had worked for many years as a long-haul truck driver transporting hazardous goods. In 2023, before his collapse, he was also a victim of robbery, which deepened a depression that went unnoticed by us until the end of his life.
The company he worked for provided no assistance at all, not even sending a representative to check on him when he fell into a coma. Please note that we live in Brazil, and he fell into a coma in another state, nearly 2,000 km away from our home.
Furthermore, my father should have been entitled to a life insurance payout, even though he took his own life. The company informed us they wouldn’t pay the insurance. Their justification was that my father passed away on October 5, 2023, and on October 3, 2023, they had signed a contract with a different insurance company. In Brazil, suicide cases are only covered after a two-year waiting period. However, my father had been insured with this company since 2021, and the change of insurer was made without his authorization or even informing him.
My sister and I are now left with no other option but to hire a labor attorney to cover the costs of the legal process in the pursuit of justice and to pay for our father’s funeral expenses.
Anyone who can help, with any amount, will be warmly welcomed and will have my eternal gratitude.
I just want to seek justice for a man who suffered his entire life and raised two children through all the hardships in the world.
I hope to give back to anyone in need on this platform and on GoFundMe, repaying every cent I was helped with, once the legal process is concluded and the money my father was entitled to is released.
